Novi prostorni raspored – uredi, učionice i kinodvorana - respektirao je i vrednovao srednjovjekovnu građevinu i istovremeno udovoljio programu nove namjene, kulturi i obrazovanju.
Sredinom osamdesetih godina rekonstruirana je kamena ograda stubišta u dvorištu zgrade.
Sredstvima Grada Splita i vlastitim sredstvima 2009. godine otvorena je potpuno obnovljena kinodvorana.
OPEN UNIVERSITY established in 1925 is an institution with long tradition of public training in culture and education. The institution was founded and is owned by the city of Split.
It is located within the Diocletian Palace, in a late Gothic palace from the second half of 15th century designed and executed by Juraj Dalmatinac (Latin : Georgius Mathaei Dalmaticus). The family which the building was built for and whose emblem is located in the courtyard portal remained unknown. Afterwards the building descended to an old noble family Cindro whose emblem adorns the courtyard lodge.
Before the reconstruction it was one of the most ruinous and most neglected residential units. The lowest possible standard of living in this building was a result of heavy and painful history.
The courtyard with its lodge and stairway as well as the lodge on the first floor of the front courtyard and the facade of the Romanesque Palace towards the Diocletian Street were restored within the conservation and restoration works effectuated in 1960.
Within the historic surroundings of an antique and medieval architecture the University opened its new facilities in 1964.
New architectural layout – offices, classrooms and the cinema hall respected and appreciated the medieval building satisfying completely new purposes, culture and education.
The stone fence of the courtyard stairway was reconstructed in the mid eighties.
With the financial support of the City of Split and by investing its proper funds a completely restored cinema hall was opened in 2009.
